Protective housings do not reduce the efficiency of the air source heat pump
Kiilax Oy has commissioned a comprehensive SolidWorks Flow Simulation analysis on the effects of a protective housing and a defrost water guide plate for an air source heat pump outdoor unit. The simulations were conducted under different wind conditions (0 m/s and 3 m/s).
Key findings:
- Flow distribution and temperatures remain almost unchanged.
- Side wind (3 m/s) can even have a slightly positive effect on the operation of the outdoor unit.
- The effect of the defrost water guide plate on performance (COP) is very small, only 1–3%, meaning it can be integrated into the housing without any significant impact on efficiency.
Kiilax solutions withstand close examination – protective housings and defrost water guide plates perform reliably even in demanding conditions.
The simulation was carried out by Tommi Haavisto on 7 May 2022.
