Stair protection keeps finished surfaces safe during construction

Construction sites are not always the tidiest places. Dust, mud and moisture get carried around, and stairs see heavy use long before a building is finished. That is why it pays to protect finished stair surfaces properly from the start.

At a Rakennustoimisto K. Tervo construction site, the terrazzo surfaces of precast concrete stairs needed to stay intact and clean throughout the build. Protecting them prevents knocks and other damage, as well as unnecessary repairs and cleaning towards the end of the project.

Made-to-measure stair protection is easy to put in place

Kiilax manufactures stair protection to the dimensions of the stair units, using durable birch plywood with a wire-mesh surface. The rigid plywood protects against dirt, impacts and knocks, while the textured surface provides good grip even when damp.

Pads underneath leave an air gap between the protection and the terrazzo surface. The durable plywood protection can be reused on the next project when the stair units have the same dimensions.

Alongside straight stairs, Kiilax makes protection for winding stairs and to special dimensions, for example for renovation projects.

“The stair protection has worked well on site. It is easy to install, stays firmly in place and, above all, protects the finished stair surfaces during construction.”

Remove the protection and reveal the finished surface

The job of stair protection is quite simple: take the knocks on site so the stairs do not have to. When construction is complete, the stair surfaces should be in the condition they are meant to be.

Less patching and cleaning at the finish line — and one less thing to worry about on site.
