Accessible design considers people’s mobility needs in each project. Easy movement through doorways helps everyone use a building on equal terms.

Accessible doorways should generally be level and free of thresholds, unless a threshold is needed because of moisture or other conditions. In wet rooms, the threshold provides a raised edge for the waterproofing.

This threshold is only 19 mm high. Finnish accessibility requirements specify a maximum height of 20 mm where a threshold is necessary. The finished doorway and threshold shape must also suit the project’s accessibility requirements.
