Spiral stairs
Kiilax’s durable plywood protectors shield the mosaic surfaces of precast concrete stairs from wear, knocks, moisture and dirt during construction. The rigid protection helps prevent mechanical damage and reduce repair work.
Each protector is CNC-machined to match the stair element. During installation, the protectors are screwed together, and the complete system is secured to the concrete at the bottom and top of the stair flight with concrete screws. The made-to-measure pieces are easy to fit and form a sturdy protective system.

Manufacturing tolerances in spiral stair elements and protectors can cause a larger gap between a step’s front edge and its protector. To correct this, fit one or two protectors near the middle of the flight in the reverse overlap order to that shown in the instructions. This lets the lower protector fit into the toe space beneath the next step. These tolerance differences usually occur around steps 8–11.

To plan protection for spiral stairs, we need:
- Stair element type and the manufacturer’s model
- Element width
- Direction of the turn, viewed from below
- Rise
- Number of stair elements
- Number of risers per element
- Tread thickness
- Toe-space depth
If available, send us the stair manufacturer’s production drawings. They provide the best basis for designing the protection.
