Hausia: Quality, Affordability and Speed in the Same Sentence

Pyry Hänninen, the construction foreman at Hausia Oy’s Lippulaiva project in Espoo, only recently became familiar with Kiilax products. Installation of the hatches is about to begin in the nearly completed apartment building, and installation experience and feedback from the neighbouring building have been very positive.
- “The product looks good and is easy and quick to install. Speed matters when hundreds of hatches are installed on an hourly basis. Saving 15 minutes per hatch makes a big difference on a project of this size,” Hänninen says.

Two apartment buildings following Hausia Oy’s concept are being built at Lippulaiva in Espoo, with 167 homes in total. Hänninen sees many advantages in this approach for both future residents and the builder.
- “Hausia’s concept emphasises high-quality materials and residents’ comfort. We invest in shared spaces, for example by designing inviting entrances and lobbies that almost have a hotel feel,” Hänninen explains.
- “Kiilax inspection hatches fit this idea perfectly. They are discreet and do not disrupt the planned appearance.”
For Hausia, concept-based construction means more than attractive surfaces. Carefully refined processes and working methods let tradespeople improve practices within their own specialisms, building skills and increasing speed. For the end user, construction costs stay reasonable and quality improves.
- “It really is true that every home is built as though it were your own. Knowledge of the best working practices moves between sites and can be put into use quickly within the concept, regardless of the project.”
“Kiilax inspection hatches fit this idea perfectly. They are discreet and do not disrupt the planned appearance.”
Kiilax supplies nearly all the fire-rated and inspection hatches for Hausia Oy’s projects. Appearance and easy installation are the first criteria when building to the concept.
- “All the inspection hatches installed under Hausia’s concept use magnetic fixings. The fixing is discreet and quick to install. Replacing a hatch is quick too,” Hänninen says.

- “Sometimes hatches get damaged during construction, and they are easy to replace. The magnetic fixing does not damage the finished wall surface at all, and replacement is practically as straightforward as the original installation.”
“We now have another 500 hatches’ worth of experience, and we are only getting faster.”
Hausia Oy’s Lippulaivan Laine is almost ready for residents to move in. Homeowners will be able to move into their new homes in June. The second building on the site, Lippulaivan Meriheinä, will be completed towards the end of 2022.
Lippulaiva has been a challenging project in many ways, with residential buildings constructed above a new shopping centre. The work has nevertheless progressed as planned, and coordinating the work of many parties, with its logistical challenges, has been an interesting experience.
- “The final cleaning of my apartment building is approaching, and inspection hatch installation is under way. They will be used on the next project too. We now have another 500 hatches’ worth of experience, and we are only getting faster.”
